Using everyday media as a creative material, the artist is interested in how intimate experiences of fiction - books, films, websites - come to structure our social encounters and our understanding of lived reality. This Park Night will present a new performance commission by artist Oscar Murillo. His practice carries an all-encompassing, relational attitude to aspects of production where elements are given equal status: materials, the practice itself, the studio, labour and the artist's personal references. A sense of community, inclusion and cross-pollution permeates Murillo's practice. Born in 1986 in Colombia, Murillo lives and works in London. This evening event with pioneering American contemporary composer Robert Ashley, celebrated for his operas and multi-disciplinary projects, will centre on Vidas Perfectas, an ambitious new Spanish-language opera based on Ashley's Perfect Lives. Directed by musician and composer Alex Waterman, Vidas Perfectas is, like the original Perfect Lives, designed for television, and has been in development for two years.
