Internships
HR Intern
The Serpentine Gallery would like to invite applications for a 3-month internship within the HR department. This internship would suit a recent graduate with 6+ months administration experience who is seeking to broaden their skills and gain experience working in business support. This internship is available on the basis of 3, 4 or 5 days per week and is to start in the week commencing 1 March 2010.

Director’s Intern
The Serpentine Gallery is currently offering an internship within the Executive team of three people in the Director’s office.
This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience working at a prestigious and high-profile gallery, providing support to the Director’s Personal Assistant in all aspects of the running of the Director’s office, including collating information and general administrative duties. The successful candidate will gain practical work experience and contribute to the work of the Gallery.
This internship would best suit a university student with an interest in working within an arts organisation and who has:
- Excellent administration and organisational skills
- The ability to use initiative and work independently
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to use MS Office and MS Outlook
- Previous administrative or secretarial experience
The internship will be for 3 months, commencing the week of 15 March 2010, and will require a commitment of 5 days per week from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Exhibitions Internship
Duration: Internships last for 3 months

Duration: 2 days per week
Working hours: 10am – 6pm
Background:
The Serpentine Gallery is widely recognised as one of London’s most popular galleries, attracting up to 800,000 visitors to its Exhibition, Architecture, Education and Public Programmes in any one year. It is the only public modern and contemporary art gallery in central London to maintain free admission and remain open seven days a week.
The Serpentine Gallery has established an international reputation for excellence, presenting pioneering exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. Within the role of Exhibitions Intern, you will provide support to the Assistant Curator and the two Exhibition Curators. You will support the Curators in the delivery of the exhibitions and will assist on all aspects of the projects as required.
Please note that this internship is offered as a volunteer activity and as such is understood to be outside the scope of the National Minimum Wage legislation.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Assist with research and fact-checking for exhibitions
- Assist with general administration, including filing, photocopying, drafting correspondence and minute taking
- Assist with picture research
- Assist with collation of material for exhibition publication
- Manage the research materials for the exhibition
What we are looking for:
- University or post-university student
- Knowledge of modern and contemporary international art
- Excellent administration and organisational skills
- The ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment, as well as being flexible
- Able to use own initiative and work independently, balanced by a sensitivity to internal approval and reporting processes
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literate: MS Office, MS Outlook
- Previous experience of working in a museum, gallery or art space is desirable
