This conference will explore the theme of the exhibition, react to individual works and address some of the central theoretical concerns: ‘namely a concern with the problem of the difference of Indian modernity, with mapping its distinctly colonial and/or postcolonial career and with uncovering the alternatives presented by marginal or subaltern groups to the totalising narratives of a dominant Euro-Western order and its bourgeois beneficiaries in the non-Western world.’ (Saloni Mathur)
