The architect Frank Gehry, designer of the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2008, is the subject of the first film, Sketches of Frank Gehry, 2005, directed by Sydney Pollack. The film-maker investigates the architect’s creative processes, from his sketches and early models made from cardboard and tape to his awe-inspiring finished structures.

Metropolis

Metropolis, a visually striking science fiction film, was created by Austrian-German director Fritz Lang. Using imagery of German Expressionism, the geometric patterns formed by buildings and workers alike vividly shows how the two are meshed together in the film’s futuristic city.

Spirited Away is a moving and magical film that uses drawn animation to create a fantasy world. Travelling with her parents to a new home, Chihiro is introduced to strange spirits and creatures and must adapt to survive.
