Nils Norman was invited by the Serpentine Gallery and The Connection at St Martin-in-the-Fields, one of the UK’s largest organisations for homeless people, to create a work in response to the charity’s location in central London. Charing Cross explores how the economic and physical structures of the city impact upon people who inhabit its public space, with contributions from artists at the Day Centre, which uncover an invisible geography of the area.
For his research Norman interviewed writers and theorists, including John Bird, Paul Chatterton, Rosalyn Deutsche, David Harvey, Doreen Massey, Alan Moore, Iain Sinclair, Neil Smith and Sharon Zukin.
