Isaac Julien is the curator of Derek Jarman: Brutal Beauty at the Serpentine Gallery. He has made a series of lightbox works documenting Jarman’s remarkable Prospect Cottage and garden in Dungeness, Kent, for the exhibition. The Limited Edition Julien has produced for the Serpentine is an interior view of the cottage and depicts a hand-engraved glass panel, which is also displayed in the first room of the exhibition.

Julien is a prominent artist and filmmaker, collected worldwide by major private and public institutions including Tate, Centre Pompidou, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. He was recently awarded a Teddy Award for Derek at the 2008 Berlin Film Festival, which was included at the Sundance Film Festival 2008 to critical acclaim. He was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2001 and awarded with the Semaine de la Critique Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1991.
