Thomas Demand (born Munich, 1964) has a unique approach to photography. The objects and spaces shown in his images look real at first glance, but turn out, on closer inspection, to be life-sized sculptures, entirely constructed from coloured paper and cardboard.
This limited edition features his major work Grotto. The sheer scale and complexity of this project was greater than anything Demand had previously undertaken.
Demand has been included in major international exhibitions including at the Fondazione Prada, Isola San Giorgio, Venice, 2007; Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, both 2007; Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2005; and Kunsthalle Zurich, 1998. He lives and works in Berlin.
