Mark Dion (born New Bedford, Massachusetts, 1961) uses archaeology, ecology and zoology to investigate the construction, interpretation and presentation of nature and history. His work often takes the form of tableaux-like arrangements of objects, based on historical cabinets of curiosities that comment on the power structures behind taxonomical definitions.
This lithograph was produced to accompany the Serpentine’s exhibition The Greenhouse Effect. The exhibition reinterpreted the classical subject of nature in art.
Dion’s work can be found in the collections of Tate, London; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and
Fonds national d’art contemporain, France. He lives and works in Beach Lake, Pennsylvania.
