Hreinn Friðfinnsson (born Baer Dolum, Iceland, 1943) is one of Iceland’s leading conceptual artists.
Friðfinnsson’s print for the Serpentine draws from one of his most celebrated works: House Project, 1974. The artist built the house depicted here, in a remote area of Iceland. It was based on a literary source describing an ‘inside-out’ dwelling, where the exterior was decorated with wallpaper, curtains and pictures. House Project was not conceived as a public work of art per se, although Friðfinnsson hoped that hikers would come across the structure by accident and then tell others about the experience. Virtually nothing remains today of the structure itself.
Hreinn Friðfinnsson’s work is represented in leading public and private collections worldwide including: National Gallery, Reykjavik; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris. He lives and works in Amsterdam.
