Álvaro Siza (born Portugal, 1933) is one of the greatest living Portuguese architects. He is the recipient of numerous international awards and won the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1992. Critics have praised his experimentation and freshness of approach.
Siza collaborated with distinguished architect Eduardo Souto de Moura and Deputy Chairman of Arup, Cecil Balmond, on the Serpentine’s Annual Architecture Commission in 2005.
The limited-edition print, produced to accompany the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2005, is based on one of Siza’s initial sketches for the interior of the building. The title also refers to the Serpentine Gallery’s own origins as a former tea-house in Kensington Gardens. Siza lives and works in Porto.
